Experience the Art of Wagashi with Master Craftsman Hiroyuki Sannō – “IKKA ICHIE”

 This autumn, Portom International Hokkaido is delighted to welcome renowned wagashi artisan Hiroyuki Sannō for a special hands-on event: “IKKA ICHIE”.
Available exclusively to our staying guests, this unique program invites you to discover the beauty and flavor of Japan through the art of nerikiri confectionery making.
 

Program Highlights

Under the guidance of Mr. Sannō, participants will create their own nerikiri and enjoy a live demonstration showcasing his refined craftsmanship.
Guests will also hear stories about his creative inspirations and passion for wagashi.
The finished confections will be served together with freshly prepared matcha.
Afterwards, enjoy a seasonal lunch featuring Shimogamo Saryo’s “Temari Gozen”, an exquisite multi-dish set that beautifully captures the flavors of Japan.

About Hiroyuki Sannō

Mr. Sannō is a wagashi artisan who treasures traditional techniques while incorporating a modern sensibility into his creations.
He has presented his works at exhibitions and events both in Japan and overseas, and has been featured widely in magazines and on television.
His delicate yet innovative confections captivate both the eye and the palate, opening new possibilities for the world of wagashi.

About Shimogamo Saryo’s “Temari Gozen”

Lunch will be served at our in-house Japanese restaurant, Shimogamo Saryo.
The two-tiered temari-jū includes beautifully arranged seasonal appetizers, grilled dishes, sashimi, simmered delicacies, and small plates, accompanied by rice and dessert.
This elegant set was also selected by professional shogi players as their official match meal during the Ōi Title Match (a major shogi title match) held at Portom International Hokkaido in July 2025.
Together with the wagashi experience, this offers a memorable opportunity to savor the depth of Japanese food culture.
